SUMMARY:‘How to Run a Swish’ online training session
DESCRIPTION:This 45 min  online training will give you all the information you need to organise a swish. Swishes (clothes swap parties) have become a real ‘thing’ in Cambridgeshire with the number of swishes organised by schools\, colleges\, community groups\,  companies and other organisations increasing threefold in 2023! These events are fun for the community but also help tackle the very serious impact that clothing and textiles are having on climate\, waste and pollution. \nCCF has a swish kit that is free for any group to borrow and contains pretty much everything you need to run an event.  It’s stored at their offices near Cambridge North. For more details\, please see our swishing webpage. \nTo join this training please email: nicole@cambridgecarbonfootprint.org with your name\, email\, location and the name of any organisation that you might be representing. Please ask a friend or colleague to register for the training too as getting a few people on board really helps.

SUMMARY:Lowland peat restoration – looking to the future
DESCRIPTION:This webinar looks at more key challenges to restoration from different perspectives and what next for lowland peat restoration\n\n\n\nThis webinar looks at more key challenges to peat restoration from different perspectives\, and the experiences gained that would help overcome these in the future to restore degraded peatlands into vibrant carbon-storing landscapes. \nFrank Street\, Site Manager for High Fen Wildland describes the work of leading nature restoration company Nattergal to re-saturate High Fen’s degraded peat preventing the emission of more than 100\,000 tonnes of CO2e over the next 50 years🌱 \nAn overview of lowland peat restoration on sites in the Humberhead Levels will be given by Project Officer Megan Hall. \nThe discussion on what next for lowland peat restoration will be led by Tammy Smalley\, Head of Conservation at Lincolnshire Wildlife Trust who are the lead partner in the Fens East Peat Partnership. There will be the opportunity for attendees to put questions to the presenters. \nThis webinar is one of a series on lowland peat restoration topics organised by Fens East Peat Partnership (FEPP) and Natural England.

SUMMARY:Tackling Car-dependent New Housing
DESCRIPTION:With Jenny Raggett\, Director and Project Coordinator at Transport for New Homes. \nJenny will share her personal experiences of local campaigning to resist car-dependent new developments\, while pressing for homes to be concentrated around good public transport and other key destinations (e.g. schools\, shops\, healthcare facilities)\, ensuring that these are easily reachable by active travel and local transport services. \n“According to Peter Bates\, Chair of the East Cambridgeshire Climate Action\, this is a growing issue in East Cambridgeshire with a large number of new housing developments in Ely\, Littleport\, Soham and the villages. Some creative thinking is needed by planners\, developers and decision-makers to identify some good solutions. Hopefully\, this webinar will point people in the right direction.” \nClick here to register for the event

SUMMARY:The Fenland Flora: Survival against the odds
DESCRIPTION:Fenland has all too often been dismissed as boring and with little biodiversity value outside the washes and a few NNRs. The Fenland Flora project\, now ready for publication\, has sought to document the history and present status of wild plants in Fenland\, and has shown the vital importance of the region\, especially for aquatic plants. In addition\, relics of the past Fenland vegetation persist in unlikely places\, and novel habitats support new species and communities. \nPresenter: Owen Mountford (joint coordinator with Jon Graham of the Fenland Flora project).

SUMMARY:Wild LIVE: Mud matters - how do we protect our blue carbon stores in UK seabeds?
DESCRIPTION:Hidden beneath the waves surrounding the UK lies a vast\, unsung carbon store: our muddy seabeds. These underwater landscapes hold an astonishing 240 million tonnes of organic carbon in just in the top 10cm of sediment\, and are vital for marine wildlife! \nBut these valuable carbon stores are being impacted by human activities like dredging and inappropriate development. What can we\, and what must we do\, to protect these essential stores of carbon in our seas\, for our climate and our wildlife? \nJoin The Wildlife Trust at 18:30pm on 28th October to find out more.

SUMMARY:Stuck in the Slow Lane: Tackling Car Dependency
DESCRIPTION:How do we persuade decision-makers\, politicians\, and communities to take bold action on traffic reduction? \nJoin Action Network for the first in their new series of evening webinars\, held in partnership with their allies\, where they explore the art of communicating the case for reducing car dependence. \nTheir speaker is Izzy Romilly\, Sustainable Transport Researcher and Campaign Manager at Possible\, who’ll be covering the evidence on tackling traffic. Izzy will share insights from Possible’s new work aiming to win over politicians and the public to the benefits of tackling car dependence – from cleaner air and safer streets to stronger local economies. \nThis one-hour session is for campaigners\, councillors\, community groups\, and anyone who wants to build support for positive change in transport.

SUMMARY:Rights of Rivers with Hogan Lovells Webinar
DESCRIPTION:Join us for the first of a series of webinars from Hogan Lovells exploring the global movement to recognise the Rights of Rivers and how rivers’ rights can be recognised in the UK. \nWith a focus on case studies and practical steps\, we’ll examine how rivers’ rights such as the right to flow\, to be free from pollution\, and to sustain ecosystems are being recognised and incorporated by local councils into their decision-making processes to protect local rivers and ecosystems. We’ll also look at how the potential reorganisation at local authority level is accelerating this process and what might be done in the future to bestow legal personhood on Nature\, including rivers via byelaws or even national legislation. We’ll share toolkits (from King’s College and others) and explore how local campaigners and councils can work together with organisations like The Rivers Trust to share experiences\, best direct efforts and promote consistency. \nFor more information\, click here

SUMMARY:Join us for a bonus episode of Wild LIVE
DESCRIPTION:Join us for a bonus episode of Wild LIVE\nOn Thursday 27th March at 7pm\, we’ll be broadcasting a bonus episode of Wild LIVE to our YouTube channel. Our expert panel will diving into the question: how can we meet energy needs whilst ensuring nature’s recovery? \nThe UK Government has set out a mission to achieve a fully decarbonised power system by 2030 with a commitment to double onshore wind\, triple solar power and quadruple offshore wind capacity. But how can we do this while protecting nature and the communities’ right to have a say?

SUMMARY:Join us for March's Wild LIVE(s!)
DESCRIPTION:On Tuesday 18th March 6 -7:30pm\, we’ll be broadcasting our next episode of Wild LIVE to The Wildlife Trusts’ YouTube channel. Our expert panel will explore the critical question: could nature be our best flood defence? \nThis event is taking place at The University of Hull so if you’re in Yorkshire why not join us in person? \nFlood risk is expected to at least double by 2050\, with 5.2 million properties in England already at risk. The UK Government committed to doubling the number of flood management projects\, including nature-based solutions. The Environment Agency estimates that this means around 260 Natural Flood Management projects need to be implemented in England between 2021 and 2027.

SUMMARY:"Getting Climate Messages Across" - Andrew Maliphant\, Great Collaboration Project
DESCRIPTION:There is so much to consider when responding to climate change and nature recovery that it can become a daunting prospect.  As well as making it easier for people to find their own path through the climate jungle\, good and effective communication is vital when encouraging more people to get involved – and of course there is no communication if you don’t get a reply! Andrew Maliphant will be leading a discussion based on an analysis of audience segments published by Climate Outreach\, who are the first British charity to focus exclusively on public engagement with climate change.  Their analysis is on their website under the banner of Britain Talks Climate – let’s get our heads together to discuss communication experiences and ideas. \n \n  \nTo register for this online event please select the RSVP GOING button below in order to receive a Zoom link. \n
